There is a theory that the Viking sunstone (aka. sólarsteinn) was used as a navigational instrument by the old Norse seafarers during the Viking Age.

It comes from a stone found in 2002 off Alderney.

The crystal was found in the wreck of a 16th-century warship, adding weight this theory.

Several written sources (from 13th/14th centuries) in Iceland point to the sunstone, one which describes the stone’s ability to locate the Sun on a completely overcast sky.

It’s this stone after which the Sunstone Pipe was named.

And so, it seemed only fitting that one of these stones be added to the Pipe’s medicine bundle.

As for its spiritual properties, the Iceland Spar enhances clear insight and self-discovery.

It helps clear away mental fog and unlock psychic abilities.

The stone is also known to amplify energy, cleanse the aura surrounding one’s body and improve the flow of energy within the body and the environment.

The Crystal Council goes further and states it’s a stone that offers … “clarity, insight, manifestation, enhancement, power, and intention programming. It’s a stone for finding solutions as it will aid in seeking the root of the problem and removing it. During meditation, the higher frequencies that Iceland spar pulsate go directly to our higher chakras and enhance one’s mental capabilities and awareness. Psychic abilities become unlocked when working with this stone, and it pushes you to be the highest version of yourself.”
